Integrated Control Unit: Removal

  1. Ensure ignition is off. Remove and shield remote ground cable from ground stud on left strut tower. Using a brake pedal positioning tool, apply brake pedal past one inch position of travel and hold in place. This will isolate master cylinder from brake hydraulic system preventing brake fluid from draining out of master cylinder reservoir.
  2. Raise and support vehicle. Remove right side engine splash shield. Disconnect oxygen sensor wiring harnesses from vehicle wiring harnesses. Remove ground strap from between frame and muffler at muffler bracket. Remove exhaust pipe-to-exhaust manifold bolts.
  3. Remove all exhaust system support/insulators from exhaust system. Remove support/insulators from brackets on exhaust system components and leave attached to vehicle body. Lower exhaust system as an assembly and remove from vehicle.
  4. Remove Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) heat shield from mounting bracket. Thoroughly clean all brake line-to-HCU connections and surfaces of HCU with brake cleaner. Remove chassis brake lines at HCU. Remove primary and secondary master cylinder brake lines at HCU.
  5. Remove bolt attaching front leg of ICU mounting bracket to front suspension crossmember. Remove 2 bolts attaching back legs of ICU mounting bracket to front suspension crossmember. Remove bolt attaching side of ICU to mounting bracket. Remove 2 bolts attaching top of ICU to mounting bracket.
  6. Grasp lock on 25-pin wiring harness connector at CAB and pull up from connector as far as possible. This will unlock and raise 25-pin connector out of socket on CAB. Remove ICU from mounting bracket, and from vehicle by pulling ICU out through area between right drive axle and frame rail.
