Test 10: Pump Circuit Failure

  1. Turn ignition on. If pump/motor does not run continuously, go to next step. If pump/motor runs continuously, replace CAB.
  2. Using scan tool, clear system trouble codes. Turn ignition off, and then on. Using scan tool, select System Test and perform Pump Test. Read system trouble codes. If pump motor operates when actuated, go to next step. If pump motor does not operate when actuated, go to step  4 .
  3. Turn ignition off. Visually inspect related wiring harness for chafed, pierced, or partially broken wires. Visually inspect related wire harness connectors for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. If any problems were found, repair as needed. If no problems were found, replace CAB.
  4. Check short wiring harness between ABS pump and CAB for disconnect or damage. If wiring harness is disconnected or damaged, reconnect or repair as necessary. If wiring harness is okay, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, enable pump motor actuation. Pump motor will not operate, but voltage will be applied. Measure voltage drop across ABS ground circuit connection, with pump motor actuation enabled. If voltage is less than .10 volt, go to next step. If voltage is greater than .10 volt, repair ground circuit for high resistance.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CAB connector. Turn ignition on. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check pump motor Fused B+ circuit. If test light illuminates brightly, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate brightly, repair Fused B+ circuit for an open.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CAB connector. Measure resistance between ground and CAB connector terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 30 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 1.0 ohm, go to next step. If resistance is 1.0 ohm or more, repair open in Black wire(s).
  8. If there are no potential causes remaining, replace CAB.
