Disabling System (Catera)
- Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS . Turn front wheels to straight-ahead position. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position and remove key. Wait at least one minute for capacitors in Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) to discharge before working on system.
- Remove 2 Torx screws from back of steering wheel. Remove the air bag module from the steering wheel. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip from the air bag module Yellow 2-pin connector. Disconnect driver air bag module Yellow 2-pin wiring harness connector from steering wheel SIR coil connector.
- Remove access panel on far right end of instrument panel. Remove the outer air deflector (vent) screw and air deflector from right side of instrument panel. Remove right side air deflector bracket. Open glove box. Remove the passenger air bag trim cover lower screws. Remove passenger air bag trim cover upper bolt. Remove passenger air bag cover.
- Remove 4 screws and trim cover from passenger air bag module on right side of instrument panel. For passenger air bag, remove CPA clip and disconnect 2-pin Yellow SIR connector. See Fig 1.

- Remove the driver's outer seat track trim cover. Disconnect the driver seat belt pretensioner 2-pin connector from vehicle harness. Remove CPA clip from driver side air bag 2-pin Yellow SIR connector. Disconnect Yellow SIR connector from vehicle harness. The connector is located under driver's seat. Repeat procedure for right-hand (passenger) seat belt pretensioner and 2-pin Yellow SIR connector.
