Removal & Installation

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  .
  2. Remove gear shift knob. On models with manual transmission, remove shift lever boot, On models with automatic transmission, remove shift indicator bezel. On all models, remove 4 screws and floor console. Loosen adjusting nut on parking brake lever output cable. Using screwdriver, remove parking brake output cable retainer.
  3. Disconnect output cable from parking brake cable tensioner equalizer. Disconnect electrical connector and unclip wiring harness from parking brake lever. Remove 4 parking brake lever mounting bolts and parking lever. Remove 3 ORC mounting nuts and discard. Disconnect ORC connectors and remove ORC.
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure. Install NEW ORC mounting nuts and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . DO NOT connect negative battery cable at this time. Perform air bag system check. See AIR BAG SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK.
