Test 8: Right Rear Speed Sensor Signal Failure

  1. Using scan tool, read system trouble codes. If scan tool displays Right Rear Sensor Circuit Failure, go to RIGHT REAR SENSOR CIRCUIT FAILURE  . If scan tool does not display Right Rear Sensor Circuit Failure, go to next step.
  2. While monitoring RR WSS, have an assistant drive vehicle while slowly accelerating straight ahead from a stop to 15 MPH. If RR WSS shows zero MPH or lags behind any other WSS more than 3 MPH, go to next step. If RR WSS does not show zero MPH or lag behind any other WSS more than 3 MPH, go to step  4 .
  3. Turn ignition off. Inspect RR WSS, connector and tone wheel for looseness or damage. Repair components as necessary. If there are not any visible sensor, connector or tone wheel concerns, replace RR WSS.
  4. Using scan tool, read system trouble codes. If DTC reoccurred, replace RR WSS. If DTC did not reoccur, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Visually inspect wheel speed sensor, tone wheel and wiring harness. Visually inspect brake for locking up due to lining contamination or overheating. Inspect all components for defects which may cause Signal DTC to be set. If any component is damaged, repair component as necessary. If there is not damage to components, test is complete.
