Brake system warning light will come on when ignition is on and parking brake is applied. Brake system warning light will also come on when there is a malfunction in the ABS or service brake system.
To test brake warning light system, ensure vehicle is in Park (A/T) or in neutral (M/T) and turn ignition switch to START position. Brake system warning light will come on. Release ignition switch to RUN position. Brake system warning light will turn off. Set parking brake to applied position. Brake system warning light will come on and stay on.
If brake system warning light operation is not as specified, check for burned out bulb, loose or corroded socket, damaged instrument cluster circuit board, broken or disconnected wire at parking brake switch or defective parking brake switch. Repair or replace as necessary.
