Analog Instrument Panels: Description

Standard instrument cluster gauges include coolant temperature, fuel level, speedometer and tachometer. See Fig 1 . All gauges are magnetic air-core and electronically driven. All indicator lights are located in the gauges, except turn signals. Gauges and LEDs are not serviceable separately. Instrument cluster must be replaced.

With ignition off, gauge pointers should rest at or below low graduation. Gauge readings are accurate ONLY when ignition is on. Cluster controls many body functions, including chime and courtesy light function. Cluster learns vehicle features when installed. Features include ABS, SKIM, RKE, air bags, cruise control and lowest fuel level. Do not swap instrument clusters between vehicles.

Low fuel level, low oil pressure and high engine coolant temperature are also indicated by warning lights. Other indicator and warning lights include ABS (if equipped), AIR BAG, battery (charging system), BRAKE, foglights (if equipped), high beam, CHECK ENGINE, seat belt reminder, security system, traction control (if equipped) and turn signals. Instrument panel switches include traction control, rear defogger and rear wiper. When ignition is turned on, all indicators will light briefly for a bulb check. Indicators using bulbs include turn signals, high beam indicator and cluster illumination. All other indicators use LEDs. All instrument cluster indicator bulbs are serviceable.
