Test 8A: ACM, Cluster Message Mismatch (Active Code)

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Connect DRB to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. On DRB, ensure PCI bus is communicating with instrument cluster. If DRB shows instrument cluster is communicating on the PCI bus, go to next step. If DRB does not show instrument cluster is communicating on the PCI bus, diagnose instrument cluster and-or PCI bus circuit malfunction.
  2. On DRB, select PASSIVE RESTRAINTS, AIRBAG, MONITOR DISPLAY and WARNING LAMP STATUS. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Turn ignition switch to ON position and observe DRB screen after 6-8 seconds. If DRB LAMP ON BY MIC and LAMP REQ BY ACM monitors match and no other malfunctions are detected, replace ACM. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (ACM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If DRB LAMP ON BY MIC and LAMP REQ BY ACM monitors DO NOT match, replace instrument cluster circuit board and perform body verification test. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
