Rear Brake Caliper, Rotor & Pads: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels. Remove 2 caliper-to-knuckle guide pin bolts. Remove caliper from adapter and rotor by rotating tip of caliper away form the adapter and then lifting the caliper off lower machined abutment on adapter. See Fig 1 . Pad assemblies will remain with caliper. Support caliper with wire to prevent weight of caliper from damaging the flexible brake hose.
  2. Remove the rotor from the hub/bearing. Remove outboard pad by prying brake pad retaining clip over raised area on caliper. Then slide the brake pad down and off the caliper. Remove inboard pad by pulling pad away from piston. Compress caliper piston if new pads are to be installed.
