Chime Inoperative With Seat Belt Unfastened

  1. Ensure ignition is off and left front seat belt is unfastened and fully retracted. Using scan tool, read seat belt switch status. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT: CLOSED, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Disconnect left seat belt switch connector and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Connect a jumper wire between seat belt switch connector terminals No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) and No. 2 (Black wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Using scan tool, read seat belt switch status. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT: CLOSED, replace left seat belt switch.
  3. Connect a jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire) on left seat belt switch connector. Using scan tool, read seat belt switch status. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT: CLOSED, repair open in Black wire.
  4. Locate BCM 20-pin connector C5. See Figure. DO NOT disconnect connector. Backprobe BCM 20-pin connector C5 with a fused jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 5 (Light Green/Red wire). See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . Using scan tool, read seat belt switch status. If scan tool displays SEAT BELT: CLOSED, repair open in Light Green/Red wire. If scan tool does not display SEAT BELT: CLOSED, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
