Fuel Gauge

Remove rear seat cushion and center protection plate to gain access to fuel gauge sending unit. See Fig 1 . Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit connector located on top of fuel tank. Using Connector Test Adapter (MB991219), connect test light between fuel gauge sending unit harness connector terminals. See Fig 2 . Turn ignition on. Monitor test light and fuel gauge needle. If test light comes on and gauge needle moves, test fuel gauge sending unit. See FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT TEST under COMPONENT TESTS. If sending unit tests okay, go to next step. If test light does not come on and gauge needle does not move, check for open in Yellow wire between instrument cluster and fuel gauge sending unit or open in Black wire between fuel gauge sending unit and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If test light comes on and gauge needle does not move, replace fuel gauge. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GAUGES under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
Remove instrument cluster to gain access to gauge. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GAUGES under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between specified gauge terminals. See FUEL LEVEL GAUGE RESISTANCE table. Replace gauge if readings are not as specified.
