Speedometer Inoperative

  1. Remove instrument cluster and disconnect instrument cluster connectors C-05 and C-06. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GAUGES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using DVOM, measure voltage between connector C-05 terminal No. 36 (Yellow/White wire) and ground. See Fig 1 . See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Turn ignition on. Roll vehicle forward and backward while monitoring DVOM reading. If voltage changes between zero and 4 volts, go to next step. If voltage does not change between zero and 4 volts, go to VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT TEST  .
  2. Using DVOM, measure voltage between instrument cluster connector C-06 terminal No. 10 (Black/White wire) and ground. If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, check for poor connections or open in Black/White wire between ignition switch and instrument cluster. Check fuse No. 8 (10-amp) located in junction block. If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in Black/White wire. Repair as necessary.
  3. Using DVOM, measure resistance between instrument cluster connector C-05 terminal No. 23 (Black wire) and ground. If continuity is indicated, recheck operation of speedometer. If speedometer is still inoperative, replace speedometer. If continuity is not indicated, check for poor connections or open in Black wire between ground and instrument cluster. Repair as necessary.
