Parking Brake Front Cable: Removal

  1. Remove remote ground cable from ground stud on shock tower. Then, correctly isolate ground cable from vehicle by installing isolator on stud.
  2. Raise vehicle. Loosen park brake tensioner adjuster nut, in front of rear crossmember, until tension is relieved from cables.
  3. Disconnect cable connector between intermediate and front cable. Lower vehicle to ground.
  4. Remove driver's door opening sill cover, side kick panel, and fuse panel cover from left end of instrument panel.
  5. Remove 2 screws behind fuse panel cover, attaching lower instrument panel cover to instrument panel mounting bracket. Remove retaining clips along top and right edge of lower instrument panel cover from instrument panel.
  6. Remove wiring harness connector from trunk release switch in lower instrument panel cover. Remove park brake release cable from park break release handle in lower instrument panel cover.
  7. Remove 4 bolts mounting reinforcement panel to instrument panel. Remove diagnostic connector from reinforcement.
  8. Remove screw securing lower A/C duct below steering column. Remove 2 lower mounting screws securing fuse junction block bracket to instrument panel end housing. Remove 2 screws securing fuse junction block upper edge to instrument panel bracket.
  9. Remove dome lamp wiring harness connector. Move fuse junction block down and to right without causing damage to harness or fuse junction block.
  10. Remove left rear door opening sill cover. Remove front seat belt anchor bolt at base of left "B" pillar. Fold carpet back and remove screw securing foot rest to floor. Remove 2 screws securing front park brake cable retainer bracket to rear floor pan.
  11. Remove 2 routing bracket screws securing front park brake cable to left side of passenger compartment floor. Remove rear bolt, and loosen 2 front nuts on studs, securing park brake lever assembly in place.
  12. Lower park brake lever assembly to access warning light ground wire connector. Remove brake warning light ground wire from switch. Remove park brake lever, with front park brake cable attached, from vehicle.
