Rear Drum Brake Shoes Automatic Adjuster Assembly

  1. Raise and support vehicle so rear wheels are free to rotate. Ensure parking brake pedal is fully released. Remove access plug from inside of brake backing plate for access to star wheel on automatic adjuster assembly.
  2. Using small screwdriver, hold adjuster lever away from star wheel on automatic adjuster assembly. Loosen brake adjustment by using brake adjuster or screwdriver to back off star wheel on automatic adjuster assembly approximately 30 notches. Brake adjuster or screwdriver must be moved upward to back off star wheel.
  3. Spin rear wheel in forward direction while suddenly applying the brakes. Sudden brake application should cause leading brake shoe to move and pull adjuster lever downward, rotating star wheel on automatic adjuster assembly.
  4. If star wheel does not operate correctly, check rear wheel brake components. If star wheel operates correctly, adjust rear brake shoes. See REAR DRUM BRAKE SHOES under ADJUSTMENTS  .
