Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Installation
- Apply engine oil to camshaft and camshaft journals. Install camshaft. Ensure to position camshafts in properly. Right side camshaft is identified by a .17" (4 mm) wide slit at rear end of camshaft. Rotate camshaft until lobes are in a neutral position, right side at about 60 degrees and left side about 71 degrees. See Fig 1.
- When installing upper and lower radiator hose, fit hose over pipe only as far as projection. See Figure. To fill and bleed cooling system, see COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING . Tighten all fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Apply a small amount of engine oil to lip of NEW camshaft oil seal before installation. Lubricate and install NEW thrust case "O" ring. Install camshaft oil seal by tapping it into place using Seal Installer (MD998713) and Adaptor (MB991559).
- Ensure No. 1 cylinder is at TDC of compression stroke. Align mating mark of distributor housing with that of coupling. See Figure and Figure
. Lubricate and install NEW distributor seal and distributor.
- Install NEW right cylinder head gasket. Check identification mark to ensure proper gasket. See Figure. When installing gasket, ensure identification mark is facing up. Tighten cylinder head bolts to specification in correct sequence. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
