Test TC-1A - No Cam Signal At Pcm

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.0L & 2.4L article in this section. After each repair, perform TEST VER-2A at end of article, under VERIFICATION TESTS (VER).
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on CMP sensor connector terminal No. 3 (Yellow wire on FJ22 and F24S bodies; Orange/White wire on JA body; or Orange wire on PL body). If voltage is less than 7 volts, repair open Yellow wire, Orange/White wire or Orange wire. If voltage is more than 7 volts, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Connect one end of a jumper wire to CMP sensor connector terminal No. 1 (Dark Blue/Red wire on FJ22 and F24S bodies; Tan/Yellow wire on JA and PL bodies). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read CMP state. While observing scan tool display, tap other end of jumper wire to CMP sensor connector terminal No. 2 (Black/Dark Green wire on FJ22 and F24S bodies; Black/Light Blue wire on JA and PL bodies). If scan tool does not detect a camshaft signal, go to step 4). If scan tool detects a camshaft signal, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove CMP sensor. Inspect camshaft target magnet. See Fig 1. If camshaft target magnet is damaged, replace camshaft target magnet. If camshaft target magnet is okay, replace CMP sensor.
  4. Turn ignition off. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of CMP sensor connector terminal No. 2 (Black/Dark Green wire on FJ22 and F24S bodies; Black/Light Blue wire on JA and PL bodies). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black/Dark Green wire or Black/Light Blue wire to splice. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Inspect PCM connector. Repair any terminals that are damaged, pushed out or miswired. If PCM connector is okay, go to next step.
  6. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of CMP signal circuit (Dark Blue/Red wire on FJ22 and F24S bodies; Tan/Yellow wire on JA and PL bodies) between CKP sensor connector terminal No. 1 and PCM connector terminal No. 26 on F24S, FJ22 and PL bodies, or No. 33 on JA body. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace PCM. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/Red wire or Tan/Yellow wire.
