Timing Belt: Inspection

Inspect timing belt for any of following conditions: Back side of belt is hard and lacks resilience. Check for cracks on back side of belt. Check belt for cracks in, or peeling of, canvas. Check belt for cracks on rib root, missing teeth, or abnormal wear of belt sides (sides are normal if they are knife-cut sharp). Reinstall belt only if NONE of these conditions exist.

Check tensioner for leaks. Also check tensioner push rod for cracks. Replace tensioner as necessary.
