Removal (41TE)

  1. Disconnect battery cables and remove battery. Remove undercover splash shield. On SOHC models, remove washer tank and cooling system radiator. On all models, remove air cleaner assembly.
  2. Disconnect throttle linkage and shift linkage from transaxle. Remove dipstick tube and dipstick. Disconnect all switch and sensor connectors.
  3. On DOHC models, remove starter. On all models, remove 2 upper bellhousing bolts. Support transaxle from underneath. Remove transaxle mount bracket retaining bolts, mounts and brackets from transaxle.
  4. Disconnect transaxle cooler lines and tie out of way. Attach engine support fixture. On SOHC models, remove starter. On all models, disconnect outer tie rod. Disconnect stabilizer link and damper fork. Disconnect both lower ball joints from steering knuckle.
  5. Using a pry bar, pop inner joint loose from transaxle and remove axle shaft assembly from transaxle. If axle shaft is equipped with center support, disconnect support from engine and tap on support with plastic hammer to remove from transaxle. Remove crossmember.
  6. Remove 2 engine-to-transaxle support brackets. Remove flexplate cover. Remove torque converter bolts, and press torque converter into transaxle. Remove lower bellhousing bolts from engine side. Lower transaxle from vehicle.
