EGR Solenoid (Talon Turbo)

  1. Disconnect EGR solenoid valve electrical connector and vacuum hoses. Identify vacuum hoses for reassembly. EGR solenoid valve is located near rear center of engine compartment. See Fig 1.
  2. Connect a hand-held vacuum pump to EGR solenoid valve hose vacuum nipple "A". See Fig 2. Apply vacuum. If vacuum holds, go to next step. If vacuum does not hold, replace EGR solenoid.
  3. With EGR solenoid valve electrical connector disconnected, apply battery voltage to EGR solenoid valve terminals. Apply vacuum with hand-held vacuum pump to solenoid nipple "A". If vacuum does not hold, go to next step. If vacuum holds, replace EGR solenoid valve.
  4. With battery voltage still applied to EGR solenoid valve, plug EGR solenoid valve nipple "B". Apply vacuum with hand-held vacuum pump to solenoid nipple "A". If vacuum does not hold, replace EGR solenoid valve. If vacuum holds, EGR solenoid valve is functioning properly.
