Test TC-107A - Cylinder #1, #2, #3, #4 Misfire
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.0L & 2.4L
in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. After each repair, perform TEST VER-2A .
NOTE:
Repair any other DTCs, including MULTIPLE CYLINDER MISFIRE DTC, before proceeding. Inspect only cylinder(s) that sets DTC.
- CYLINDER #1, #2, #3, #4 MISFIRE DTC sets when PCM senses an absence of spark. Possible causes are: failed ignition coil circuit, failed spark plug, failed spark plug wire, failed spark plug connector, failed fuel pump, failed fuel filter, mechanical engine problem, failed EGR system, failed injector(s), failed connector terminals or connector wires, or failed PCM. Go to next step.NOTE: Refer to manufacturer's operation manual for instructions in use of engine analyzer and procedure for pattern analysis.
- Turn ignition off. Connect an engine analyzer to engine. Start engine. Allow engine to idle. If engine will not idle, maintain constant engine speed at more than idle. Inspect ignition cables for proper installation. If ignition cables are installed properly, go to next step.
- Set engine analyzer to read display or parade pattern. If pattern is not okay, repair indicated secondary ignition system component. If pattern is okay, go to next step.NOTE: DO NOT spray inductive pick-up.
- Using a spray bottle, spray ignition cables with water while observing secondary ignition pattern. If pattern changes while spraying water, repair appropriate ignition cable(s). If pattern is okay, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, monitor Idle Air Control (IAC) motor. Disconnect and reconnect injector connector at each cylinder that set DTC. If IAC motor does not step up for each injector disconnected, check and repair engine mechanical problems If no mechanical problems exist, replace injector(s). If IAC motor steps up, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Connect a vacuum gauge to brake booster vacuum hose. Start engine. Allow engine to reach normal operating temperature. With parking brake on and shift lever in Neutral position, read vacuum gauge. If vacuum gauge does not read at least 13 in. Hg, go to TEST NTC-19A . If vacuum gauge reads at least 13 in. Hg, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Remove all spark plugs. Remove Auto Shutdown (ASD) relay. Check engine compression. If cylinder(s) that set DTC is not within 25 percent of other cylinders, repair engine mechanical problem as required. If cylinder(s) that set DTC is within 25 percent of other cylinders, go to next step.
- Inspect cam lobes on cylinder(s) that set DTC. Replace camshaft if necessary. If cam lobes are okay, replace spark plug for cylinder that has set DTC.
NOTE:
A break in test sequence occurs at this point. Sequence skips from TEST TC-107A to TEST TC-111A. No tests have been omitted.
