Electric EGR Transducer Solenoid (Avenger & Sebring)

  1. Disconnect electric EGR transducer solenoid valve electrical connector and vacuum hoses. Identify vacuum hoses for reassembly. Electric EGR transducer solenoid valve is located next to air intake ducting in engine compartment. See Fig 1 .
  2. Plug electric EGR transducer solenoid valve nipple "A". Connect a hand-held vacuum pump to electric EGR transducer solenoid valve hose vacuum nipple "B". See Figure . Connect a positive pressure type hand-held pump to electric EGR transducer solenoid valve nipple "C". See Figure .
  3. Using jumper wires, connect electric EGR transducer solenoid valve to battery voltage. With battery voltage applied to solenoid valve, apply positive pressure to solenoid valve nipple "C". See Figure . Apply vacuum to solenoid valve nipple "B". Vacuum should leak. If vacuum leaks, go to next step. If vacuum does not leak, replace electric EGR transducer solenoid valve.
  4. Release positive pressure from solenoid valve nipple "C". With battery voltage still applied, apply vacuum to solenoid valve nipple "B". See Figure . Vacuum should hold. If vacuum holds, go to next step. If vacuum does not hold, replace electric EGR transducer solenoid valve.
  5. Disconnect jumper wire from battery. Apply vacuum to solenoid valve nipple "B". See Figure . Vacuum should hold. If vacuum holds, go to next step. If vacuum does not hold, replace electric EGR transducer solenoid valve.
  6. Using a DVOM, measure resistance across electric EGR transducer solenoid valve terminals. See ELECTRIC EGR TRANSDUCER SOLENOID VALVE RESISTANCE table. If resistance is not within specification, replace electric EGR transducer solenoid valve. If resistance is within specification, electric EGR transducer solenoid valve is functioning properly.
