Pulsed Secondary Air Injection Solenoid (Avenger DOHC, Sebring DOHC & Talon Non-Turbo)
- Disconnect pulsed secondary air injection solenoid valve electrical connector, vacuum hose and air injection hoses. Identify hoses for reassembly. Pulsed secondary air injection solenoid is located near air intake ducting. See Fig 1.
- Connect a hand-held vacuum pump to pulsed secondary air injection solenoid valve hose vacuum nipple. See Fig 2. Apply vacuum 20 in. Hg to solenoid. Vacuum should hold with no ventilation between solenoid ports "A" and "B". If vacuum holds with no ventilation between solenoid ports, go to next step. If vacuum does not hold or ventilation does occur between solenoid ports, replace pulsed secondary air injection solenoid valve.
- Using jumper wires, connect pulsed secondary air injection solenoid valve to battery voltage. With battery voltage applied to solenoid valve, apply 19 in. Hg vacuum to solenoid valve nipple. See Fig 1. Vacuum should leak gradually and ventilation should be present between solenoid ports "A" and "B" while vacuum is maintained.
- If vacuum leaks gradually and ventilation is present between solenoid ports as vacuum is maintained, pulsed secondary air injection solenoid is functioning properly. If vacuum does not leak gradually or ventilation is not present between solenoid ports as vacuum is maintained, replace pulsed secondary air injection solenoid.
