Parking/Emergency Brake
- Pull parking brake lever with 45 lb. (20 kg) force. If lever moves 3-5 notches (rear disc) or 5-7 notches (rear drum), parking brake is properly adjusted. If lever does not move as specified, remove carpet in center console. Loosen parking brake cable rod adjusting nut.
- On models with rear drum brakes, forcefully depress brake pedal 5-6 times with engine idling. Ensure pedal stroke stops changing as automatic-adjustment mechanism adjusts shoe clearance. On models with rear disc brakes, remove adjustment hole plug from rear brake disc. Using flat-blade screwdriver, turn adjuster clockwise to expand brake shoe until disc will not rotate. Turn adjuster 5 notches counterclockwise.
- On all models, tighten parking brake cable rod adjusting nut until lever moves 3-5 notches (rear disc) or 5-7 notches (rear drum). Ensure no play exists between adjusting nut and pin. Ensure adjusting nut is securely held at nut holder.
- Raise and support rear of vehicle. Release parking brake and ensure brakes do not drag. If brakes drag, readjust parking brake lever.
