Valve Lifters: Inspection

Inspect valve lifter roller for damage. Ensure valve lifter O.D. and oil clearance are as specified. See VALVE LIFTERS  table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS. Inspect valve lifter bore in cylinder block and outside surface of lifter for scoring. If scoring exists, ream cylinder block bore for next oversize valve lifter. Oversize valve lifters are available in .001" (.02 mm), .008" (.20 mm) and .030" (.76 mm).

CAUTION: If camshaft is replaced, valve lifters must also be replaced. Whenever NEW camshaft or valve lifters are installed, one pint of Chrysler Crankcase Conditioner (3419130) must be added to crankcase. This aids break-in and should be left in engine for at least 500 miles.
CAUTION: DO NOT allow engine RPM to exceed fast idle until valve lifters have filled with oil and become quiet.
