Timing Chain Cover: Removal
- Disconnect battery cables. Drain cooling system. Disconnect coolant hoses from timing chain cover. Support engine and remove right engine mount. Remove oil pan. See OIL PAN .
- Remove oil pick-up tube. Remove transaxle inspection cover (if necessary). Remove right wheel and inner splash shield. Remove drive belts.
- Remove A/C compressor with hoses attached. Remove A/C compressor mounting bracket. Remove vibration damper. Remove idler pulley from front engine bracket. Remove engine bracket from front of cylinder block.
- Note location of cam sensor, located in top of timing chain cover. Loosen cam sensor bolt enough to allow slot of sensor to slide past cam sensor bolt. Pull sensor from timing chain cover. Remove timing chain cover, gasket and "O" rings.
CAUTION:
An "O" ring is used on sensor case; if necessary, tap cam sensor lightly to remove. DO NOT pull on wiring harness lead during cam sensor removal.
NOTE:
Install front crankshaft oil seal after installing timing cover to properly engage oil pump on crankshaft.
