Fuel Sending Unit Test

  1. To check sending unit resistance, remove fuel sending unit from tank. See FUEL SENDING UNIT R & I  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After removal, ensure fuel sending unit is not damaged. Position sending unit float to FULL position. Using ohmmeter, check resistance reading across fuel sending unit connector terminals. See Fig 1 .

  2. If reading is infinity, replace sending unit. Correct reading should be within 4 ohms of specification. Refer to FUEL SENDING UNIT CALIBRATION  . Position sending unit as specified and check resistances to match table. If sending unit resistances do not match table, replace sending unit.
  3. If sending unit resistances are satisfactory, check wiring circuit by reconnecting sending unit to harness connector. Ensure sending unit and connector are properly grounded to vehicle. Continue with appropriate CIRCUIT TEST.
