LeBaron Sedan

  1. To begin test starting sequence, simultaneously press and hold TRIP and TRIP RESET buttons while starting engine. Release both buttons after engine starts. If display comes on, go to step 3). If display does not come on, check fuses.
  2. If fuses are good, remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER R & I  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check for battery voltage at cluster Blue connector terminal No. 12 (Dark Blue/White wire). See Figure . If voltage exists, replace instrument cluster. If voltage does not exist, repair wiring as necessary.
  3. If digits are displayed in odometer, repeat test starting sequence at step 1). If odometer shows an erroneous display, replace cluster. If CHECK displays in odometer, instrument cluster is in test mode. Continue test by pressing US/MET button.
  4. If all displays do not light, replace cluster. If Code 110 displays in odometer, replace cluster. If CODE displays in odometer and/or any codes from 115 to 121 display in speedometer, check appropriate sending units and wiring according to code number(s). See CODE EXPLANATIONS (LEBARON SEDAN)  .
  5. If cluster drops out of diagnostics (CHECK will vanish from odometer), move vehicle 6 inches or disconnect distance sensor (speed sensor) connector at transmission, and restart test at step 1). If after pressing US/MET button in step No. 3), cluster does not drop out of diagnostics (CHECK is still displayed), all display segments are still on and original problem was in fuel gauge circuit, continue with next step. If original problem was not fuel gauge related, go to step 9).
  6. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER R & I  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using ohmmeter, check resistance of fuel sending unit input signal at cluster Red connector Dark Blue wire terminal No. 9. See Figure . If resistance is less than 2 ohms or more than 150 ohms, problem is in wiring and/or fuel sending unit. See FUEL SENDING UNIT & CIRCUIT TEST  under TESTING.
  7. If resistance is between 2-150 ohms, reconnect instrument cluster. Disconnect fuel tank sending unit harness connector and ensure fuel gauge reads empty when ignition is turned on. Using test light, ground Dark Blue wire terminal of fuel sending unit harness connector. See Figure .
  8. Fuel gauge should read full when input wire is grounded. If fuel gauge does not test correctly as described, replace cluster. If fuel gauge tests as described, replace faulty fuel sending unit. See FUEL SENDING UNIT R & I  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  9. For cluster problems other than fuel gauge problems, press US/MET button to continue test. Individual gauge segments should display in sequence. If segments in display appear shorted together, replace cluster. If all segments light individually, press US/MET button again to continue test.
  10. Speedometer and odometer symbols should display in sequence. Visual test can be repeated by pressing TRIP RESET. If 2 symbols glow at same time, they are shorted together. Replace instrument cluster. If speedometer and then odometer symbol glows individually, instrument cluster is good. Test is complete. Press US/MET button to return cluster to normal operating mode.
