Instrument Panel - Electronic: Testing: Self-Diagnostics
- Simultaneously press and hold TRIP and TRIP RESET buttons. Start engine and release both buttons. If no display exists, check fuses and verify voltage at connector. Replace instrument cluster if voltage exists.
- If digits are displayed in odometer, repeat starting sequence. If odometer shows a erroneous display, replace body control computer located behind right kick panel.
- If CHECK is displayed in odometer, instrument cluster is in test mode. Continue test by pressing US/MET button.
- If speedometer remains blank and CODE is displayed in odometer for 10 seconds, followed by one of the Codes 900, 905, 920, 940 and 999 at 3 second intervals, determine problem indicated by the code. See CODE EXPLANATION

Code Problem 900 Lack Of Messages 905 Bus Loop Failure 920 Lack Of Messages From Body Control Computer 921 Body Control Computer Odometer Failure 940 Lack Of Messages From Engine Controller 999 End - If speedometer remains blank and CODE is displayed in odometer for 10 seconds, followed by Codes 921 and 999 at 3-second intervals, the body control computer must be replaced. Body control computer is located behind right kick panel.
- If speedometer remains blank and CODE is displayed in odometer for 10 seconds, followed by the Codes 110 and 999 at 3 second intervals, the instrument cluster must be replaced.
- If speedometer remains blank and CODE is displayed in odometer for 10 seconds, followed by the Code 999, and no fuel gauge problem exists, proceed to step 11).
- If a fuel gauge problem exists, check for no fuel gauge reading and a flashing asterisk in instrument cluster. If no reading exists and flashing asterisk exists, the C2 D bus must be checked. See BODY CONTROL COMPUTER article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- If fuel gauge reading exists with no flashing asterisk, check the resistance at the fuel level input signal pin of the body control computer. This is the Dark Blue wire (pin No. 11) on Black connector of body control computer located behind right kick panel. If resistance is between 2 and 150 ohms, fuel level signal is correct and body control computer must be replaced.
- If resistance at fuel level input pin is less than 2 ohms or exceeds 150 ohms, either wiring or fuel tank sending unit is defective.
- If Code 999 exists and no fuel gauge problem exists, press US/MET button. All display segments should illuminate for 6 seconds, then a No. 5 should be displayed in the speedometer.
- Press US/MET button. Individual segments should display in sequence, then a No. 6 should be displayed in the speedometer. Replace instrument cluster if 2 segments are shorted together and display at the same time.
- If all segments display individually, press US/MET button. Speedometer and odometer symbols should be displayed in sequence, then the No. 7 should display in the speedometer.
- Replace instrument cluster if 2 symbols are shorted together and display at the same time. If symbols displayed individually, press US/MET button. The washer fluid, door/deck, check engine, seat belt, brake and check gauges warning lights should display in sequence and then the No. 8 should display in the speedometer.
- If warning lights did not display, check for defective bulbs. Replace bulbs and retest by pressing TRIP RESET button. Replace instrument cluster if no defective bulbs exist.
- If all warning light bulbs were displayed, instrument cluster is good. To return instrument cluster to normal operation, press US/MET button.
