Removal (Conquest)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable and remove battery. Drain engine oil and coolant. Remove lower radiator hose. Rotate crankshaft until No. 1 piston is at TDC of compression stroke.
  2. Remove alternator drive belt, power steering drive belt, and A/C compressor drive belt (where applicable). Remove water pump pulley. Disconnect heater hose connection and water hose connection from water pump. Remove water pump.
  3. Remove crankshaft pulley bolt and remove crankshaft pulley using proper puller. Remove timing chain case cover and gasket. Remove chain guide "B", chain guide "A", and chain guide "C". Remove counterbalance chain. See Figure.
  4. Remove crankshaft sprocket "B" and oil pump sprocket. Remove counterbalance shaft sprocket and spacer. Remove tension sleeve and spring. Remove camshaft sprocket bolt, distributor gear and pin (leaving camshaft sprocket attached to camshaft).
  5. Loosen side chain guide. Remove tension side chain guide and sprocket holder. Remove camshaft sprocket, timing chain and crankshaft sprocket together simultaneously.
