Removal (All Others)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain engine coolant and engine oil. Disconnect upper radiator hose. Remove radiator shroud, fan and fan clutch assembly. Remove alternator drive belt, power steering pump drive belt, and A/C compressor drive belt (where applicable).
  2. Remove water pump pulley. Disconnect heater hose connection and remove water pump assembly. Remove complete air cleaner assembly and all components to access rocker cover. Remove rocker cover.
  3. Remove crankshaft pulley bolt and remove crankshaft pulley using proper puller. See Fig 1. Remove timing chain case cover and gasket. Remove chain guide "B", chain guide "A", and chain guide "C". Remove counterbalance chain.
  4. Remove crankshaft sprocket "B" and oil pump sprocket. Remove counterbalance shaft sprocket and spacer. Remove tension sleeve and spring. Remove camshaft sprocket bolt, distributor gear and pin (leaving camshaft sprocket attached to camshaft.
  5. Loosen side chain guide. Remove tension side chain guide and sprocket holder. Remove camshaft sprocket, timing chain and crankshaft sprocket together simultaneously.
