Jet Valves: Notes

  1. Jet valves are mechanically controlled and should be adjusted. Engine must be at normal operating temperature 185-205°F (85-95°C).
  2. Remove complete air cleaner assembly. Remove rocker arm cover. Rotate engine crankshaft until No. 1 cylinder is at TDC of compression stroke. DO NOT  rotate crankshaft counterclockwise.
  3. Measure jet valve clearance on intake rocker arm of No. 1 cylinder using feeler gauge. Clearance should be as indicated in JET VALVE CLEARANCE  table. Loosen adjustment lock nut and turn adjusting screw until clearance is correct. Tighten lock nut to specification.
  4. To adjust other jet valves, rotate crankshaft (clockwise) exactly 180 degrees. Check adjustment of No. 3 cylinder jet valve and adjust if necessary. Repeat procedure in remaining firing order sequence, No. 4 cylinder jet valve, then lastly, No. 2 cylinder jet valve. Reverse removal procedure to install components removed.
