Removal (All Others)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain engine oil and engine coolant from engine. Drain transmission oil if engine and transmission are to be removed as an assembly. On models with M/T, drain clutch hydraulic fluid. On all models, reference mark and remove hood. Remove complete air cleaner assembly. Disconnect all vacuum hoses, fuel hoses, electrical harness connectors and wires leading to engine.
  2. Disconnect coolant hoses and remove radiator assembly. Disconnect all control cables. Determine if A/C system will require discharging in order to either remove, or support compressor out of the way when removing engine. Remove power steering pump (with hoses attached, if possible) from engine and support pump out of the way.
  3. Disconnect front exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold flange. Remove engine undercover and other protective covers (if necessary). If removing engine only, remove starter assembly, clutch linkage brackets (M/T), torque converter bolts (A/T), cover plates, and engine support brackets between transmission and engine. Support transmission before removing engine.
  4. If removing engine and transmission together, index mark and remove drive shaft(s). Remove transmission under cover protector (if necessary). On models with A/T, disconnect all external electrical connectors, gearshift linkage, transmission oil cooling lines and vacuum line. On models with M/T, remove gearshift lever assembly from top of transmission and support out of the way.
    NOTE: Transmission must be in the Neutral position when removing gearshift assembly (M/T).
  5. If removing engine and transmission as an assembly, attach engine support to engine and slightly raise engine to relieve weight from insulators. Remove front and rear insulators. Remove crossmember assembly. Remove engine/transmission assembly from vehicle.
  6. If removing engine only, support transmission from below. Attach engine support to engine and slightly raise engine to relieve weight from front insulators. Remove front insulators. Remove engine assembly from vehicle.
