Removal (Conquest)
- To relieve fuel pressure, remove floor panel in luggage compartment. Disconnect electrical connector near fuel pump. Start engine and let engine run until it stops. Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery cable.
- Drain engine oil and coolant. Remove master cylinder heat protector. Disconnect oxygen sensor harness connector and remove turbocharger heat protector. Remove complete air cleaner assembly.
- Disconnect both intercooler air hoses from turbocharger unit. Disconnect boost hose and upper radiator hose. Remove air intake pipe and secondary air cleaner. Disconnect PCV valve hose.
- Reference mark accelerator cable adjustment and disconnect cable. Remove rocker arm cover. Remove semi-circular packing (half-moon seal) from cylinder head. Rotate crankshaft to position No. 1 cylinder at TDC. Disconnect and remove all spark plug wires. Disconnect high pressure fuel pipe connection from throttle body.
- Remove oil dipstick tube. Disconnect turbocharger oil pipe and oil return hose connections. Disconnect all turbocharger coolant and heater hoses. Disconnect rear catalytic converter from turbocharger.
- Index mark distributor rotor position to distributor housing, and distributor housing position to cylinder head. Remove distributor assembly from cylinder head. Reference mark and disconnect vacuum lines and all external electrical harnesses (including fuel injectors), connectors and ground wires for correct installation.
- Remove camshaft sprocket bolt and remove distributor gear. Remove camshaft sprocket and timing chain (together without separating chain from sprocket) and place it on top of camshaft sprocket holder. DO NOT rotate crankshaft after camshaft sprocket is pulled out from camshaft. See Fig 1.
- Loosen cylinder head bolts in 2 or 3 steps using sequence shown in Fig 2. Remove cylinder head assembly with manifolds attached.
NOTE:
DO NOT
allow the timing chain to come off of camshaft sprocket.
