Counterbalance Shafts: Removal

  1. Remove counterbalance drive chain and sprockets. Remove oil pump. See OIL PUMP  under ENGINE OILING in this article. Remove right counterbalance shaft.
  2. Install two 8 mm bolts in thrust plate. Evenly tighten bolts to remove thrust plate while supporting front of left counterbalance shaft. Remove left counterbalance shaft.
