Counterbalance Drive Chain: Removal

  1. Drain coolant and engine oil. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove water pump pulley and water pump. Remove oil pan. See OIL PAN  under ENGINE OILING in this article.
  2. Remove crankshaft pulley, timing chain case and gaskets. Remove chain guides "A", "B", and "C", sprocket locking bolts, and crankshaft sprocket. Remove both counterbalance shaft and oil pump sprockets with drive chain. Note position of counterbalance shaft sprocket for reassembly reference. See Figure.
