Piston & Rod Assembly: Removal
- Remove cylinder head. See CYLINDER HEAD in this article. Remove oil pan. See OIL PAN . Ensure ridge on top of cylinder is removed with ridge reamer before removing pistons. Mark connecting rod and cap for cylinder identification and installation reference purposes.
- Note direction of "FRONT" mark (or arrow) on piston and connecting rod. See Fig 1. This mark should be positioned toward the timing cover side of the engine. Remove rod cap and remove piston assembly.
