Crankshaft & Main Bearings: Removal
- Remove flywheel or drive plate. Remove rear plate and rear seal case. Remove timing chain. See TIMING CHAIN under CAMSHAFT in this article. Ensure connecting rods and main bearing caps are marked for location.
- Remove connecting rod caps and bearings. Remove piston and connecting rod assemblies. Note direction of arrow on main bearing caps. Remove main bearing caps. Ensure all components are placed in correct order. Remove crankshaft. Remove main bearings from cylinder block. Mark bearings for location.
CAUTION:
Note type of bearing and location. Bearings may contain different types of lubrication holes.
