Speed Control Switch: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove lower steering column cover. If equipped with tilt steering column, drop column down, taking care not to damage gear indicator cable. Remove 4 screws attaching support bracket to column jacket and remove wiring through.
  2. On all standard columns, remove wiring trough after unsnapping 4 plastic retainer clips. Disconnect speed control switch wiring harness connector. On all models, remove wiper control knob from end of lever.
  3. Remove 2 screws attaching speed control switch. If equipped with tilt column, remove steering wheel and attach flexible guide wire to lower end of speed control switch harness. Pull wires up through lock housing between lock plate and side of housing. Then disconnect guide wire and remove switch.
  4. On all standard columns, remove upper steering column lock housing cover which is retained by 2 screws. Gently remove switch and harness from column taking care to avoid damaging wires wile pulling them through column.
