Speedometer & Odometer Inoperative Or Operate Intermittently

  1. Check for defective distance sensor or distance sensor wiring. Remove sensor from vehicle and connect an ohmmeter across sensor terminals. Set selector switch on ohmmeter so that readings of less than 1 ohm can be shown clearly.
  2. Eight (8) distinct pulse readings should be noticed for each revolution of the sensor shaft. Each reading should have a value of 1/2 ohm or less. A reading higher than this indicates a defective sensor. If sensor is okay, check wiring and connectors for short or open circuits.
