Lancer ES

  1. Press "TRIP" and "TRIP RESET" buttons at same time. Start motor and release "TRIP" and "TRIP RESET" buttons. If there is no display in odometer, check fuses. Make sure that ignition voltage exists at connector. If voltage is correct, replace cluster. If digits are displayed in odometer, repeat starting sequence. If odometer shows a false display, replace cluster.
  2. If "CHEC" is displayed in odometer, cluster is in test mode. Continue test by pressing "US/MET" button. If all vacuum fluorescent displays do not light up, replace cluster. If "FAIL" is displayed in odometer, check wiring and all sending units for gauges in cluster. If wiring and sending units all test as good, replace cluster.
  3. If original problem was in fuel gauge area, check fuel gauge circuit as follows: check fuel level input signal at Pin No. 5 (Dark Blue/Yellow wire) on 13-pin wiring connector on cluster. If resistance at fuel level input pin is between 2 and 150 ohms, fuel level input signal is good and cluster must be replaced. If resistance at fuel level input pin is less than 2 ohms or more than 150 ohms, either wiring or fuel tank sending unit is at fault.
  4. If all vacuum fluorescent displays lighted in step 2), press "US/MET" button. Display segments should appear in sequence. If segments are shorted together, replace cluster. If all segments light individually, press "US/MET" button. Speedometer and odometer symbols should be displayed in sequence.
  5. If 2 symbols light at same time, symbols are shorted together and cluster must be replaced. If symbols light individually, test is completed and cluster is proven to be good. To return to normal operating mode for cluster, press "US/MET" button.
NOTE: If cluster is replaced, actual vehicle mileage must be programmed into new cluster in order to satisfy Federal regulations. See Odometer Adjustment in ADJUSTMENT section.
