Instrument Panel - Electronic: Description

The fully electronic instrument cluster uses vacuum fluorescent displays for speedometer, odometer, fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and system voltage. There are also several warning lights incorporated in the cluster to supplement the digital readouts. Both digital and linear displays are used. In addition, the integral cluster self-diagnostic system permits rapid item by item testing for technicians.

Some models offer a tachometer in the cluster. Other models offer a graphic message center which alerts the driver to low washer fluid, doors ajar, or trunk/hatch lid ajar. A warning light module is included on some models. The lights indicate low oil pressure, low voltage, low fuel, or high coolant temperature. Other models have the warning lights arranged in different places on the instrument cluster.

An electronic navigator unit is offered on some models. The navigator unit offers information on time, date, day of week, distance to empty (fuel), current and trip fuel efficiencies, trip distance, trip average speed, distance to destination, estimated time and date of arrival, trip elapsed time, trip fuel consumed, and estimated time until arrival.

Navigator system uses digital sensors for distance and fuel consumption figures. An analog input from fuel gauge is also used. An alpha-numeric vacuum fluorescent display is used. The display has 2 rows of 10 characters each. Pushbutton switches are used to choose display information, to enter trip distance, to set time and date, and to reset trip functions.

Navigator display is functional when ignition is on or time button is pressed. Timekeeping and trip information functions require continuous battery voltage supply.
