Fuel Gauge

  1. Disconnect wire from terminal on fuel tank sending unit. Clip wire to a known good sending unit. Connect a jumper wire between sending unit fuel pick-up tube and a good ground.
  2. Retain float arm of sending unit to its empty stop and turn ignition to "ON". After 2 minutes, fuel gauge should read "EMPTY" or below.
  3. Move float arm to its full stop. After 2 minutes, fuel gauge should read "FULL".
  4. If gauge responds properly, sending unit at tank is faulty and should be replaced. Also check mounting flange on tank for deformity.
  5. If gauge does not respond as described, check all wiring and connections, printed circuit-to-gauge terminal connections or voltage limiter performance. If all check out okay, replace fuel gauge.
