Audible Message Center

  1. With doors closed and key out of ignition for 15 minutes, open driver's door and turn on headlights. A tone with brief periods of silence should be heard. Insert key in ignition. A higher tone should be heard.
  2. Remove key from ignition. Open driver's door and turn on headlights. A verbal headlights on warning followed by a tone should be heard. Insert key in ignition. A verbal key-in reminder should be heard followed by a tone.
  3. Turn ignition "ON." A verbal fasten seat belt warning should be heard and seat belt warning light should light for 6 seconds.
  4. With key in ignition, close doors and fasten seat belt. A verbal "Thank You" should be heard. Start engine. A verbal "Thank You" and any warnings followed by a verbal "All Monitored Systems Are Functioning," should be heard.
  5. With engine running, depress parking brake. A verbal "Parking Brake On," message should be heard. Release parking brake and a verbal "Thank You," should be heard.
  6. Open and close each door. Upon opening door, a verbal "Door Ajar" should be heard, and a verbal "Thank You" should be heard when door is closed.
  7. Test low fuel warning with a known good sending unit. When sending unit is in empty position, low fuel lamp should light and a verbal "Low Fuel" warning should be heard.
  8. Depress float in windshield washer bottle. A verbal "Low Washer Fluid" warning should be heard.
  9. With the engine off, the following tests are conducted. Low oil pressure, engine overheating and low system voltage. Disconnect message center vacuum switch located on left fender side shield. Turn ignition "ON." Engine warning lamp should light and verbal "Low Oil Pressure" warning should be heard. Reconnect vacuum switch.
  10. With ignition "ON," disconnect wire from engine temperature switch. Connect a jumper from disconnected wire to ground. After 45 seconds, a verbal warning "Engine Overheating," should be heard. Reconnect temperature switch.
  11. With ignition "ON," turn on accessories such as blower motor, headlights and defogger. Charging system lamp should light. After 5 minutes, verbal warning "Electrical System" should be heard.
