Axle Shaft Installation & Endplay Adjustment
Install gasket, brake backing plate, gasket, and left axle shaft. Tighten retainer plate nuts to 30-35 ft. lbs. Inst-ill right axle shaft in same manner. Back off adjuster on right axle shaft until inner face of adjuster is flush with inner face of retainer, then tighten retainer plate nuts to 30-35 ft. lbs. Mount a dial indicator on brake support and tighten adjuster until there is no axle shaft endplay at either shaft. Back off adjuster about 4 notches to provide endplay as listed in specifications. Hit left shaft with a soft hammer to move right bearing cup against adjuster, then rotate shaft to obtain a true endplay reading. Remove one retainer plate nut to install adjuster lock. Recheck shaft endplay.
NOTE:
When adjustment completed, check endplay of left axle shaft; must be equal to endplay of right shaft within.002". Install brake drum and wheel and tire assembly.
