Rear Axles - 9 1/4" & 1967-72 9 3/4" Ring Gear Integral Housing: Overhaul: Pinion: Removal

  1. Remove drive pinion nut and washer, then remove drive pinion flange with Tools C-452 and C-3281. Remove drive pinion oil seal, slinger, gasket, front pinion bearing cone and preload shim pack. Press out drive pinion stem and rear bearing cone assembly.
  2. With brass drift, drive out the front and rear pinion bearing cups from housing, and remove shim from behind rear bearing cup. Remove rear bearing cone from case hubs with Tool DD-914C or C-293 and adapters No. 37 (9 3/4" axle), No. 17 (9 1/4" axle).
  3. Remove differential bearing cones from case hubs with Tool DD-914C or C-293 and adapters No. 62 (9 3/4" axle) No. 18 (9 1/4" axle).
    CAUTION: Install adapters so they do not pull on bearing cage.

    Remove shims from behind bearings.
