Liftgate Wiring Harness Replacement (CAC): Notes

WARNING:

Refer to SIR Warning .

CAUTION:

If a vehicle is equipped with a head curtain inflator module ensure that the inflator module and tether are undamaged. If tether or curtain airbag are damaged in any way, they must be replaced.

CAUTION:

Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced.

Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. SIR Disabling and Enabling

    NOTE:

    Reposition the weatherstrip as necessary.

  3. Pull the windshield garnish moldings (1) rearwards to release the tether from the A pillar.
  4. NOTE:

    Tether and Bolt are integral to the Windshield Garnish Molding.

  5. Access the windshield garnish bolts (2) which is located on the backside of the windshield garnish molding (1) and secures the tether to the A pillar.
  6. Windshield Garnish Molding Bolt - Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove [2x]
  7. Disconnect the electrical connectors. [2x]
  8. Windshield Garnish Molding - Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [2x]

    Front Side Door Sill Trim Plate Clip (1) - Remove

  10. Front Side Door Sill Garnish Molding (2) - Remove
    1. Reposition the front floor panel carpet as needed.
    2. Starting at the rear of the garnish molding, pull upward at the B-Pillar joint to disengage garnish molding.
    3. Work your way forward disengaging all of the garnish molding clips then pull rearward to disengage the clip on the forward vertical wall.

    Rear Side Door Sill Garnish Molding (1) - Remove

  12. Starting at the front of the sill garnish molding, pull upward at the B-Pillar joint to disengage sill garnish molding.
  13. Work your way rearward disengaging all of the garnish molding clips then pull forward to disengage from the C-Pillar lower.
  14. Replace the retainers as required.

    Release the retainers with a suitable plastic trim tool.

  16. Center Pillar Lower Trim Panel (1) - Remove

    NOTE:

    Use a flat-bladed tool to open the bolt caps.

  18. Use a magnetic tool to remove and install the bolts carefully because the bolts may drop inside the vehicle.
  19. Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Bolt - Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [2x]
  20. Pull the left and right side of center pillar upper trim panels (2) toward the inside of the vehicle only to disengage the upper retainers to secure the space enough to remove the headlining trim panel.
  21. Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel - Left Side and Right Side (2) - Reposition away [2x]

    NOTE:

    Use a flat-bladed tool to open the quarter window trim finish panel bolt cap.

  23. Quarter Window Trim Finish Panel Bolt - Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [2x]
  24. Body Lock Pillar Upper Trim Panel - Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove [2x]
    1. Use a flat bladed plastic trim tool.
    2. Grasp and gently pull up on the body lock pillar upper trim panel.

    Fold the assist handle downward and hold. (2)

  26. Use a small flat-bladed tool to open the assist handle covers to access the bolts.
  27. Roof Rail Assist Handle Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]

    Roof Rail Rear Assist Handle Bolt - Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [4x]

    1. Fold the assist handle downward and hold.
    2. Use a small flat-bladed tool to open the assist handle covers to access the bolts.
  30. Roof Rail Rear Assist Handle - Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove [2x]

    Rear Seat Position Center Courtesy Lamp (1) - Remove

    1. Use a flat bladed plastic tool to remove.
    2. Disconnect the electrical connector.

    CAUTION:

    Do not exert downward force at the forward or rearward edge of the roof console assembly as irreversible damage will occur.

    NOTE:

    The retainers are stronger than the console assembly. During removal, the console may separate, and if this happens, the roof console will need to be reassembled.

    Using a flat bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

  33. Grasp the roof console on both sides and pull down to disengage the clips.
  34. Disconnect all electrical connectors.

    Using a plastic trim tool, carefully pry downward on the cover to release from windshield.

  37. Squeeze tabs on insert and pull apart from cover.
  38. NOTE:

    The windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover and cover insert has to be removed as a single unit from the windshield surface to prevent damage to mirror.

  39. Windshield Multifunction Sensor Mount Bracket Cover Insert (1) - Remove

    Pull downward to completely remove the windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover (1) from windshield.

  41. NOTE:

    The windshield multifunction sensor mount bracket cover and cover insert has to be removed as a single unit from the windshield surface to prevent damage to mirror.

  42. Windshield Multifunction Sensor Mount Bracket Cover (1) - Remove

    NOTE:

    Unclip the sunshade and rotate the sunshade to the side.

  44. Open the left and right side of sunshade support bolt access covers with an appropriate tool.
  45. Sunshade Support Bolt - Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [2x]
  46. Using the appropriate tool, release the metal sunshade support retainer.
  47. Sunshade Support - Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove [2x]

    Sunshade Retainer Bolt Cover - Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [2x]

    Sunshade Bolt - Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [4x]

  50. Sunshade - Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove [2x]
    1. Squeeze the tabs at the base of the sunshade to detach it from the roof panel and allow the headliner with the sunshade attached to be lowered.
    2. Release the retainer attaching the sunshade to the headlining trim panel.

    Reposition the sunroof housing front drain hoses.

  52. Retaining Clip (1) - Remove [5x]

    Reposition the sunroof housing front drain hoses.

  54. Retaining Clip (1) - Remove [3x]
  55. Move the driver and passenger seats fully forward and recline.
  56. Fold down the rear seat backs

    NOTE:

    Prior to removal, note the routing of the wire harness to aid in reassembly and to ensure proper installation.

    Headlining Trim Panel Retainer (1) - Remove [2x]

  58. Lower the headlining trim panel (2).

    Liftgate Lower Trim Finish Panel Bolt (1) - Remove

  60. With a flat bladed plastic trim tool, remove the liftgate trim finish panel pull cup (2).

    Release the retainers with a suitable plastic trim tool.

  62. Liftgate Upper Center Trim Finish Panel (1) - Remove

    Release the retainers with a suitable plastic trim tool.

  64. Liftgate Upper Side Trim Finish Panel-Both Sides (1) - Remove [2x]

    Release the retainers with a suitable plastic trim tool.

  66. Liftgate Lower Trim Finish Panel (1) - Remove
  67. {If equipped} Disconnect the electrical connector.

    Release the liftgate wiring harness grommet (1) from the liftgate.

  69. Disconnect all the connectors of the liftgate wiring harness (2).

    Release the liftgate wiring harness grommet (1) from the roof panel.

  71. Disconnect the retainer and remove the wiring harness. (2)

    Release the liftgate wiring harness grommet (1).

  73. Pull the liftgate wiring harness (2) out of the liftgate grommet opening and the roof panel grommet opening.
