Removal Procedure

WARNING:

When a lift gate hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

WARNING:

When a liftgate hydraulic system component is removed, installed or disconnected, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle, liftgate hydraulic system, or personal injury.

CAUTION:

DO NOT exceed the limit of the liftgate power assist actuator ball socket joint's free motion during installation to prevent possibility of damage to the actuator.

    NOTE:

    Use a flat-bladed tool to open the quarter window trim finish panel bolt cap.

  2. Quarter Window Trim Finish Panel Bolt - Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [2x]
  3. Body Lock Pillar Upper Trim Panel - Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove [2x]
    1. Use a flat bladed plastic trim tool.
    2. Grasp and gently pull up on the body lock pillar upper trim panel.

    NOTE:

    Roof Rail Rear Assist Handle Bolt - Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [4x]

    1. Fold the assist handle downward and hold.
    2. Use a small flat-bladed tool to open the assist handle covers to access the bolts.
  5. NOTE:

    Use a flat bladed plastic tool to remove.

  6. Roof Rail Rear Assist Handle - Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove [2x]

    Headlining Trim Panel Retainer (1) - Remove [2x]

  8. Lower the headlining trim panel (2) enough to gain access to the liftgate wiring harness electrical connector.

    Disconnect the electrical connectors (1) and washer hose (2).

    NOTE:

    Left side shown, right side similar.

    Remove the 4 metal clips (1) at the ends of the liftgate strut (2).

  11. Liftgate Strut-Both Sides (2) - Remove [2x]

    Liftgate Hinge Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]

  13. With the aid of an assistant, remove the liftgate. (2)
