Circuit/System Testing
Test 1
- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector:K69 Transfer Case Control Module
- Verify a test lamp turns On between the test points:Control circuit terminal 11 & Ground
- If the test lamp does not turn On
- Disconnect the electrical connector:X3@X50A Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Control circuit terminal 11@Control module harness & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Control circuit terminal 11@Control module harness & Output terminal@Fuse
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Test or replace the component:Front Axle Engagement Actuator Relay
- Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On
- Remove the component:Front Axle Engagement Actuator Relay
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Control circuit terminal 11@Control module harness & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If less than 1 V
- Clear DTCs
- Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
Verify the DTC does not set.
- If the DTC sets
Replace the component:K69 Transfer Case Control Module
- Go to next step: If the DTC does not set
- If the DTC sets
- All OK.
Test 2
- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector:M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator
- Test for less than 10 ohms between the test points:Ground circuit terminal 4 & Ground
- If 10 ohms or greater
- Disconnect the ground connection:Ground Connection@The other end of the circuit
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Ground circuit terminal 4 & The other end of the circuit@Ground Connection
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
- Go to next step: If less than 10 ohms
- Disconnect the electrical connector:K69 Transfer Case Control Module
- Connect a 5 A fused jumper wire between the test points:Terminal 11@K69 Transfer Case Control Module & Ground
Verify a test lamp turns On between the test points:Ignition circuit terminal 1@M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator & Ground
- If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is OK
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Ignition circuit terminal 1 & Output terminal@Fuse
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Verify the fuse is OK and there is voltage at the fuse.
- If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is open
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off & Remove - Test lamp
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Ignition circuit terminal 1 & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance - Replace the component:M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator
- Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On
- Remove - Jumper Wire(s)
- Connect the electrical connector:K69 Transfer Case Control Module
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Test for less than 11 V between the test points:Control circuit terminal 2@M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator & Ground
- If 11 V or greater
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector:K69 Transfer Case Control Module
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Control circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- If less than 1 V - Replace the component:K69 Transfer Case Control Module
- Go to next step: If less than 11 V
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector:K69 Transfer Case Control Module
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Control circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance
Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- If less than infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Control circuit terminal 2@Component harness & Control circuit terminal 12@Control module harness
- If 2 ohms or greater
Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- Go to next step: If less than 2 ohms
- If 2 ohms or greater
- Connect the electrical connector:M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Momentarily connect a jumper wire between the test points:Control circuit terminal 12 X1@Control module harness & Ground
Verify the component activates:M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator - Produces a sound
- If the component does not produce a sound
Replace the component:M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator
- Go to next step: If the component produces a sound
- If the component does not produce a sound
- Momentarily connect a jumper wire between the test points:Control circuit terminal 12@Control module harness & Ground
Test for battery voltage between the test points:Control circuit terminal 9@Control module harness & Ground
- If less than battery voltage
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector:M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points:Control circuit terminal 3@Component harness & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points:Control circuit terminal 3@Component harness & Control circuit terminal 9@Control module harness
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component:M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator
- Go to next step: If battery voltage
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector:M26 Front Drive Axle Actuator
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points:Control circuit terminal 3@Component harness & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If less than 1 V
- Clear DTCs
- Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
Verify the DTC does not set.
- If the DTC sets
Replace the component:K69 Transfer Case Control Module
- Go to next step: If the DTC does not set
- If the DTC sets
- All OK.
It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.
