Installation Procedure
- Using an appropriate brake caliper piston spanner tool, slowly rotate the brake caliper piston clockwise while applying inward pressure to the brake caliper piston until the piston is fully seated in the brake caliper housing.
Rear Disc Brake Pad Spring (1) - Install NEW [4x]
Rear Disc Brake Pad (1) - Install [2x]
Rear Brake Caliper (1) - Install
- NOTE:
DO NOT use any air tools to remove or install the guide pin bolts. Use hand tools ONLY.
CAUTION:Rear Brake Caliper Guide Pin Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Electrical Connector (1) @Rear Parking Brake Actuator - Connect
{If equipped} Rear Disc Brake Pad Wear Sensor (2) - Install NEW
- {If equipped} Connect the electrical connector. (3)
- {If equipped} Rear Brake Bleeder Valve Cap (1) - Install
- Install the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Steel Wheel) , or Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Aluminum Wheel)
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
- With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of its travel distance.
- Slowly release the brake pedal.
- Wait 15 seconds, then repeat steps 12 - 13 until a firm brake pedal is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
- Connect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (9C1/5W4) , or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (KL9)
- Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir to the maximum-full level with GM approved brake fluid from a clean, sealed brake fluid container. Brake Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling
- Calibrate the park brake. Park Brake Calibration
- {If equipped} Reset the brake pad life monitor system. Brake Pad Life Monitoring Reset
- Burnish the brake pads and rotors.
- Select a smooth road with little or no traffic.
- Accelerate the vehicle to 48 km/h (30 mph).
- Using moderate to firm pressure, apply the brakes to bring the vehicle to a stop. Do not allow the brakes to lock.
- Repeat steps 19.2 and 19.3 until approximately 20 stops have been completed. Allow sufficient cooling periods between stops in order to properly burnish the brake pads and rotors.
NOTE:Use care to avoid overheating the brakes while performing this step.
