Circuit/System Verification

NOTE:
This diagnostic assumes the following:
- The battery is completely charged.
- There is adequate fuel in the fuel tank.
- Verify there are no DTCs set related to the following component/system:
- Fuel System
- Ignition System
- Cold Start System
- If a related DTC is set
- Go to next step: If a related DTC is not set
- Verify DTC P0601-P0607, P060A, P060B, P0610, P061C, P062B, P062F, P0630, P064D, P064E, P134C, P160A, P160D, P160E, P161C, P163A, P163B, P16F3, P2610, P262B, P264F, P27B5 is not set.
- If any of the DTCs are set
- Go to next step: If no DTC is set
- Ignition ON
- Verify the security indicator on the instrument panel cluster illuminates momentarily.
- If the indicator stays illuminated or is flashing
Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle , and Immobilizer Description and Operation
- Go to next step: If the indicator does not stay illuminated or is not flashing
- If the indicator stays illuminated or is flashing
- Verify the scan tool Engine Speed parameter is greater than 0 RPM while cranking the engine.
- If 0 RPM
Refer to DTC P0335 or P0336
- Go to next step: If greater than 0 RPM
- If 0 RPM
- Verify the scan tool Engine Speed parameter, while cranking the engine, is greater than 50 RPM on a cold engine and 125 RPM on a hot engine.
- If less than 50 RPM on a cold engine or less than 125 RPM on a hot engine
Refer to Engine Cranks Slowly
- Go to next step: If greater than 50 RPM on a cold engine or greater than 125 RPM on a hot engine
- If less than 50 RPM on a cold engine or less than 125 RPM on a hot engine
- Verify there are no fuel system leaks from the fuel tank to the high pressure pump.
- If a fuel leak is present
Refer to Fuel Leak Diagnosis
- Go to next step: If a fuel leak is not present
- If a fuel leak is present
- Ignition ON
- Verify the fuel pump turns ON and OFF when commanding the Fuel Pump ON and OFF with a scan tool.
- If the fuel pump does not turn ON and OFF
Refer to Fuel System Diagnosis
- Go to next step: If the fuel pump turns ON and OFF
- If the fuel pump does not turn ON and OFF
- Verify the scan tool Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor parameter is greater than 10 MPa (1, 450 psi) while cranking the engine.
- If not 10 MPa (1, 450 psi) or greater
Refer to Fuel System Diagnosis
- Go to next step: If greater than 10 MPa (1, 450 psi)
- If not 10 MPa (1, 450 psi) or greater
- Verify the following conditions do not exist:
- Collapsed or restricted air intake duct to the throttle body
- Restricted air filter element
- A skewed engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Refer to DTC P017B-P017D, P117F, P14C0, or P2C3A-P2C3D
- Exhaust system restricted. Refer to Restricted Exhaust .
- Fuel contamination. Refer to Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis .
- Engine mechanical condition, for example, worn timing chain and gears or low compression. Refer to Symptoms - Engine Mechanical
, or Engine Compression Test

- If a condition is found
Repair as necessary.
- Go to next step: If a condition is not found
- If a condition is found
- All OK
